I love the gorgeous filters from this company. While there are plenty of pros and cons to digital image making, this converts a few of the cons to pros.
2. 50 mm 1.8 (best use of $100 ever!)
For the money- Best. Value. Ever.
3. Edward Weston
I'm inspired by lots of artists, but he was my first.
4. Underwater camera
I'm a water girl. I need to be in the water, near the water, see the water. This makes it possible to create both in and out of the water and not be afraid of my equipment getting wet, or worse.
5. My homemade scrim
For years, I've thought about how to make a GIANT scrim to soften the light. Thanks to Kevin Kubota's awesome tutorial, I made one myself. All by myself. My husband didn't even lift a finger.
6. Backlight
Whether I light the front with a strobe, reflective surface, reflector or even my shirt, I can't get enough of that backlit goodness. Which leads to....
7. A white shirt
Some photographers dress in all black, most of the time, I choose a white shirt to act as my own reflector.
8. Window light
Gorgeous, malleable light
9. A piece of foam core
A simple piece of white foam core is like Macgyver. In a pinch it can block light, refect light, be a backdrop or a floor. Amazing.
10. The golden hour
I have always loved that gorgeous time of day. As a kid, I remember sitting in the backyard watching the light change and move during the last hour before the sun set. Now, as an adult who is often up before the sun, sunrise is a close second!
