A little Flashback Friday!
I always enjoy creating an art piece for my own holiday cards every year. I see it as not only a way to document what my kid is up to and how she's growing, but also as an art piece for my family and friends.
A couple of years ago, I had an idea of what I wanted to recreate with Taylor--I had seen a very cool image shot with a Lensbaby of a girl doing a cartwheel on the beach. Taylor was so into cartwheels--she did them EVERYWHERE, that I knew an image of her doing a cartwheel would reflect who she was at the time. It never seemed to work that I had a free evening to shoot our card that year--I was busy shooting other people's holiday cards!
So we switched it up and went to the beach in the morning. It was overcast and cold, but when you are 8, you don't have a thermostat so it didn't matter to T. I knew the beach I had chosen would have lots and lots of seagulls hanging out and I knew my final image would be at least 3 or 4 images composited together, so I knew I was looking to create both cool images of the birds and a great image of Taylor.
I had Taylor chase the birds so that they would fly toward and in front of me and I shot away, hoping that I wouldn't get pooped on. (Birds seem to LOVE to poop on me!!! It happens ALL THE TIME!!) When I thought I'd gotten the bird images I wanted, I turned my camera to my daughter and instructed her to cartwheel. I really loved the one with her tongue hanging out.
I absolutely love creating portraits that portray the spirit and essence of my subject and I love that this resulting portrait image really exemplifies who my daughter is--my beautiful and strong, independent spirited girl.
Happy Weekend!
