Professional Photographer of California: Convention 2014

This past weekend, I went to the Professional Photographers of California convention in Pasadena.  I've gone in the past; it seems to be the only convention that I've been able to schedule in.  Granted, it's not got all the hustle of WPPI in Vegas or PPA, but I've still found myself inspired beyond belief.

This year, I am inspired by wedding photographer, Jerry Ghionis.  He was an inspired presenter; funny and human and all superman, all at the same time.  I read somewhere that he is often called the "MacGyver of photography" (although I can't find my source again!)  and it fits.  He is a photographer "before photoshop" creating rich images in camera using simple techniques like breathing on the lens and more complex techniques using lighting, reflections and strobes.  However, each amazing image has one thing in common-and that's the technique of slowing down and thinking to create. And I found that to be a great reminder; because it's when I slow down, that I often create my finest work.  This weekend was time well spent.

May your weekend be full of time well spent!
