Why I am a product based photographer.

There are those who do and those who don't.  Sell digital images, that is.  In my commercial work, digital is the way of that world, however, in my portrait work, not so much.

Let me ask you this:
Have you taken a lot of pictures with your cell phone?  Maybe some really GREAT ones? How many  of those have you printed?  (I'll even give you bonus points if you've uploaded them to your computer's hard drive)  Have you had a photography session with a photographer and purchased a disc of images?  What did you do with them?  If you did print them, how did they turn out?  How about those vacation photos?  Where are those memories?

My job as a photographer is multi-faceted.  I'm an artist--you hire me for the vision I have, the way that I see and how I create that vision.  Not only in my camera and darkroom, but as a tangible art piece that you can look at everyday.  I offer you my knowledge, education and experience in photography as well as the products that will best suit the images we create together.  I also choose professional labs that produce exceptional quality and the difference is obvious in that end product.

And that's what's important.  You invested in my vision, you trusted me to capture you or your family because you value photography. And I want you to have those images to look at.  Not on your phone, not on your computer, but in your home.
Everyday.  I have a large scale metal print of my daughter and my dad after surfing that I look at everyday.  It brings me great joy.

When a natural disaster strikes, no one is looking through the rubble for their hard drive full of memories.  They are looking for tangible pieces. The most cherished finds are often photographs, of themselves as children, their parents, their kids, their wedding.  In fact, firefighters are TRAINED to find and save not just people, but photographs.  That's how important photographs are to people.

So when we meet after I take your portrait, I'll show you proofs from your session that you can handle and look at.  And we'll find your favorites and figure out how we'll display them.  Perhaps it will be an album, perhaps it will be a wall grouping.  I'll show you samples, so you'll be able to see and feel exactly what you'll be getting.  And when they're done and on display, I KNOW they'll bring YOU a priceless amount of joy.
