Who in your life can you call when you need help? Not of the 911 variety, but someone who's knowledge or whose experience about a subject exceeds yours or someone who has the ability to get things done that you may not be able to accomplish on your own. Now, think about someone you might be able to call from 20 or 30 (sort of dating myself here!) years ago. Over the last several weeks, I've called on two people that I am so very honored to call friends.
Several weeks ago, I called Dan Snipes. I worked with Dan when I was 16 at Michael Good Photography in Dana Point. Call it an inspiration or divine intervention; I knew he was the one to call. As an accomplished commercial photographer and artist himself, I knew he could guide me in putting my show together--and guide me he did--from printing to matting, he helped me get this project done. I certainly can't resist the opportunity to thank him and share this image--one of my very first portraits--of Dan. So thanks Dan!
And I must give a hearty thank you to Frank Salas, whose amazing pep talk made me cry. Unlike Dan, Frank and I have kept in touch since we first met working together at Jon Wolf Photography when I was in college at the University of Arizona. I am so lucky to call Frank, an amazing photographer as well as sought after speaker in the industry, my friend. Despite being a very busy wedding photographer, Frank made sure he was available to shoot my wedding 10 years ago.
I leave you with his words:
"Some people don't want to put their work out there until it's perfect. And 20 years later, it's still not perfect and they still haven't gotten anywhere. Be proud of yourself that you are just doing it."
Get out there and do it.
